The Highway Code in Cameroon is derived from traffic legislation decree number 79/341 of September 3, 1979, and regulation number 04/01-UEAC 089-CM-06 adopted by the Ministers in Charge of Transports for UDEAC countries on August 3, 2001, in Bangui concerning the agreement of the CEMAC Highway Code.

However, some improvements were made to the current Highway Code. This aimed at bringing it up to date with the new technical projections at both local and international levels.

The current Highway Code emphasizes the driver's civil obligations, vehicle mastery, a First Aid Kit in the event of an accident, Cameroon restrictions, and, in particular, violations of the Highway Code and the fines that must be paid.
